Graffiti Kaleidoscope x Mad C

Mad C - Graffiti Kaleidoscope
OK guys.  It's been a minute since I gave you one concerning the Queen B of Graff and by that I mean MAD C.  On this piece, the transition of the artist and the progression to think outside the box and constantly push the envelope hit a home run.  Don't know what these bad boys are worth but seeing that only 8 pieces were made they got to be a pretty penny.  A big fan of the transparent colors from spray paint company Belton her sponsor, the Kaleidoscope idea seems to work from the start.  Made for her solo show "Reflections" at the Kolly Gallery, the pieces are made out of anodized aluminum and made to look like a 600ml spray paint can.  They are hand painted to match each piece and boast hand cut pieces of colored glass that also match the color scheme.  Smh…  Below are a few flicks from the project and a video that sheds more light on the Kaleidoscope.  Enjoy!

Founding Fathers

Founding Fathers - DJ Documentary

Here's one that I've been meaning to share with you guys, but I wanted to watch it a few times before I weighed in on it.  This is the DJ documentary "Founding Fathers".  It sheds light on a list of DJ's that feel like they were left off the Hip Hop history books.  Throughout the entire documentary there is no or very little mention of Bam or Kool Herc.  Sour grapes or a legitimate gripe?  Let me know what you think on the feedback after you watch it.  In the documentary they say that people like Bam & Herc were a few years too late, but personally I feel more like they were actually a few years too early.  They we're also more disco and or club dj's.  The documentary does shed light on a bunch of technical advancements in the field of DJ'ing.  I feel they did a good job on that.  It also shows what I've been saying forever and that is.  That this DJ game as we know it, has more roots in the sound system business started in Jamaica.  The documentary is narrated by Chuck D who does a stellar job and should ruffle a few feathers or at least open up some interesting dialogs.  Enjoy and don't forget to tell me what you think in the feedback section.

B-Girl Lady Daze x The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble | Beat Swap Meet LA | B-Boy Summit 20 Year Anniversary 2014

B-Girl Lady Daze x The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble
So my best friend and life tagged teamed with me to hit up the Beat Swap Meet Los Angeles x B-Boy Summit 20 Year Anniversary.  We were there to help out our NorthStar family, Vendetta Vinyl and make it a Hip Hop holiday.  Well, half way threw the day a band started setting up in front of the booth.  I was that much more hyped when they introduced the band as The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble and said they were from San Diego. Fire and Heavy Instrumental Soul is what they brought to the table.  The morale went thru the roof as everyone started bobbing their heads and swaying from the grooves.  My lil one first asked me if she could get closer to the band.  I told her no problem and she proceeded to get zapped by the energy & frequency of the music.  A bit later she asked if she could dance.  Something she had never done in public.  I told her for sure and this is what happened.  These are just a few of the times I recorded, but she went out for most of the bands set.  When the band was done she told them: "Thank you for playing good music" and dropped a dollar in their bucket.  When the band was done packing, one of the members came by and handed her back the dollar, as to return the favor for grooving together.  On the way home I was as proud as a papa bear could be.  Since she had never done that before I asked her: "What got into you today?" She looks at me and says:  The Music.

The Ultra LP

Jack White's - The Lazaretto - ULTRA LP

OK guys.  Here's one for you Vinyl lovers.  It surounds the new Jack White Ultra LP.  Here are some of the features in this collectors gem.

First of all, it is cut on 180 gram vinyl.
There are 2 vinyl-only hidden tracks beneath the center labels (under the label grooves).  This is a first of it's kind.  Beneath the label; meaning you can play another track that it's hidden where the LPs sticker is.
One of the hidden tracks plays at 78 RPM and the other plays at 45 RPM, making the LP the first 3 speed record.
Side A plays from the inside out!  Another feature I had never seen.
This is amazing! - The record has what they call dual-groove technology witch plays an electric OR acoustic intro for the song "Just One Drink" depending on where the needle is dropped; the grooves meet the body of the song. SMH.
Side A has a shinny finish while side B has a matt finish.
Both sides finish with Locked Grooves that continue to play as if it was looped.  Side A with what they are calling a first; in that has an outside locked groove.
If that was not enough tricks for you, here's the kicker.  Side A contains a hand-etched hologram!  Yes I said hologram.  This is another first of its kind.  The record actually has 2 angels spinning around as the record plays.
I don't know about you, but I might just have to get in line and pick one of these up as a collector of vinyl.
