IZZY-WST @ Battle Grondz

Here are flicks of Izzy-WST rocking at the annual event "Battle Groundz".  I started an outline but the spacing just didn't work out so I just chilled, got free, and talked to everyone.  I did see cats painting outlines with mini rollers, masking with their hands, and one cat even brought an entire box full of stencils.  Yes I said a box filled.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but when did that ish become accepted in Aerosol Art?  Don't get mad, practice your trait and put in your time.  If your dedicated, it will come. In the mean time here are flicks of someone who took the time to learn and do just to the art form.  Enjoy!

Arest 150 - Wild Style Technicians

(Arest 150 - wall)
Just wanted to be the first to congratulate Arest 150 for becoming the newest member of the WILD STYLE TECHNICIANS Crew. It's been a long time coming and we were watching each step of the way.  In the 20 year history of the crew no one from San Diego has been added since the founding members started the crew.  With Sake being the only exception, Arest marks first person from SD to get in. This is true evidence of what happens when... you teach, influence and give back. This is the example of what WST stands for and what we have done with it for the past 20 years. This is someone who got it. He took the teachings (Symmetry, Sarifs, Balance, Composition, Weight, Bars, Arrows, Bits, Doo dads, Funk, ect. and made his own style with it. We don't teach style, we teach principles, history and blueprints. The style is up to the individual to acquire and come up with. I can't say how proud I am of this individual watching nearly his entire Graff ride and seeing him advance. To a great friend - Welcome to the family. You will be a great addition.

Aerosoul 3 - Needs you help.

I'm extremely proud to be down with this squad and continue to be inspired and moved by these brothers.  The Wah Set Zulu chapter of the NorthStar Zulu foundation has continued their hard work in the neighborhood, the youth and with the great Aerosol Art show - "Aerosoul 3 - From Khemet 2 Aztlan".  These brothers are always in the trenches and lead by example.  Don't tell these cats they ain't down you sucka cats..  I was able to go to last years event and it was just incredible.  For these truly grass roots movements to happen, we need your help.  Tons of volunteer hrs. go into making this show possible, but we need your help.  Yes, your help.  Check the link and video and give back to Hip Hop today.

I got your Zulu ID right here...

Here is what I got back in the day for paying my one time only fee.  With my ID card, I also got 2 stickers from headquarters.  The stickers are still in the wrapper they came in.  Also in the goody bag, was a Zulu Gremlin/Rock Steady T-Shirt design by HEX.  The  shirt was due to the fact that I was Rock Steady Crew San Diego Chapter president at the time.    I remember how hype I was to receive these and to go on and do the work Afrika Bambaataa has inspired all of us to do.  A big salute to all my NorthStar Z's.  "No Him Bow"  Peace and Blessings to all Amazulus doing good, honest and genuine work.  Z's up!

Cooking with DazeRoc - Dinner for two.

After getting tons of request to bring back an edition of “Cooking with DazeRoc” I finally wrote down what I cooked last night for my daughter and myself.  Here we got Grilled chicken breast strips, grilled zucchinis, grilled corn on the cob, and yellow rice with corn criollo style.  Here is a list of the ingredients and a how to for each item. Hope you like the recipe.  My 3 year old daughter said to me: ”The rice is good, the corn is good, the zucchinis are good, & the pollo is good.  Papi this is the best day ever.” God bless her and her heart. Lol.  So if your asking if this meal is approved, there you go right there.  She ate everything on her plate.  Till the next episode of cooking with DazeRoc, be good to each other and "Buen Provecho…"

BBQ/Grilled Chicken, Grilled Zuchinnis, Grilled Corn on the Cob, & Yellow Rice Criollo.

Rice  - Ingredients:

 1-Cup of rice.
1 Small(8.5oz.) can of corn.
1-Packet of “Sazon” Goya or any other brand.
2-Cups of water.
2-Tbls. of extra light olive oil.
4-“Zee's” of Salt. (Between 1 to 2 teaspoons of salt, depending on your taste.)
2-“Zee's” of black pepper.
1-“Zee” of garlic granules or 1 large garlic clove.

How to:

Rinse rice.  In a small to medium size rice sauce pan heat up oil in medium-high heat.  Stir in rice and stir, coating the rice with the oil. (App. 1- 1 ½ minutes.)  Turn heat to high and add water.  Continue to stir.  Add salt, black pepper, garlic granules, drained can of corn, & packet of “Sazon”.  While stirring, bring to a boil and allow top water to evaporate till it’s even with rice.  Lower temperature to Low-Med. heat, cover and cook for 18 minutes.  Do not take top off while cooking.  Stir before serving.

Grilled Zucchinis - Ingredients:

 2-small zuchinis.
Extra light virgin oil.
Salt.
Black pepper.
Garlic granules.
How to:
Rinse and clean zucchinis.  Cut long-ways and lighly coat both sides with extra light virgin oil.  Season to taste with the salt, black pepper, & garlic granules.  Grill zuchinis over hot coals for approximate 4 minutes per side.

Grilled Corn on the cob. - Ingredients:

2-Corn on the cob with the husk stillintact.
Butter.
Salt.
Black pepper.

Prior to cooking corn put into a juice pitcher upright and fill with water.  Let them soak the water up for at lest 1 hr.  This will help the corn not burn, stay moist and kind of steam the corn while cooking.  Place corn in your grill over hot coals and cook for at least 1 hr. turning over once during cooking.  Pull back husk being careful not to be burned by the steam and season to taste with butter, salt, & black pepper.

Chicken - Ingredients:

4-large chicken strips.
Adobo Criollo seasoning.
Black pepper.
Garlic granules.
Ground oregano.

How to:

Lightly coat both sides of chicken with the Adobo seasoning.  Do not over do it.  This stuff is very concentrated and high in sodium.  Optional – add a “zee” of black pepper, garlic granules, & ground oregano per side.  Place chicken on grill using the indirect method of cooking.  For those of you that do not grill regularly, that means putting and even amount of coals on opposing sides and placing the chicken over the middle of the grill that would not have hot coals over it.  To cook with the indirect method you will need to keep the top on and not peek.  Put the cover on your grill and cook for 45 minutes.  I like my chicken well done.  If your not sure if your chicken is done you can always check using a meat thermometer.  Internal temperature needs to be at least 165 degrees.

Aaron Evans - We All Work

Here is a video I have to share with you guys.  This is Aaron Evans "We All Work" featuring Generik.  The video was filmed Gorilla style on the San Diego Trolley with no permission or notice.  The trolley is San Diego's light rail movement.  Real cool to see the reaction of the people as the video unfolded.  One guy there went from surprised, to bumping his head, to forgetting about all his days worries.  By the time his stop came his morale was way up and he was free.  Hip Hop Lives!  Enjoy!

CHAKA - Los Angeles Bombing Legend...

Here is a lil video I found from an Art Exhibition / Installation called "CHAKA - Ressurection". It features one of the most prolific bombers of all times, CHAKA hailing from Los Angeles, California.  Just a lil piece of history for those that never heard of the man.  Enjoy!

DOOM1 aka Raid RIP Tribute

DOOM1 aka Raid RIP Tribute

Here is something I’ve been meaning to share with you guys.  This is the outline and flicks of a tribute I painted for a good friend that had his life cut short due to violence.  He was one of San Diego’s best bombers and graff writer of his time.  His name was DOOM.  My first partner in crime SAKE and I ran into both him and his partner DEF KOZY together.  The place was the Spring Valley Swapmeet.  For some reason that seemed to be a hub for graff writers at the time since it was easy to buy and come up on paint even if you were a kid.  I used to save up my lunch money my mom would give me to eat lunch at school, so I could get cans on Saturday morning at the Swapmeet.  We went on to meet many other writers those early Saturday mornings at the Swapmeet.
(Outline drawn on rooftop.)

I painted this as part of a Hip Hop jam called “Hip Hop is Dead”.  The jam was paying tribute to dead Hip Hop artist and turned out to be a packed house.  The place was magic.  The graff writers got to paint on the rooftop of this building in the middle of downtown!  You could see San Diego’s downtown 360 degrees.  It was very uplifting and spiritual to be up there closer to the clouds and be doing a tribute piece.  Hat’s off to the promoters for finding that gem of a place.  Thank you for the opportunity to be part of the festivities.  I’m also adding the rest of the pieces done by the other artist.  Enjoy!

Greens. It's what's for breakfast...

So after a building and morale session with my NorthStar bredrens I decided to get it in on another level.  Here is a what has been going down for breakfast and on some occasions dinner as well.  My 3 year old daughter loves it.  We call it "Green Monster Muscle Juice".  The trick is to go to the you local organic vegy spot and pick up everything green.  The list includes: Kale, Bok Choy, Cucumbers, Chards, Spinach, Broccoli, Celery, Green Apples, Grapes, Tomatoes, Carrots, Banana, Strawberries, & a hand full of raw almonds.  I guarantee you will feel great inside and out and will be more energized than having a cup of coffee or an energy drink.  Get it in and stay free.

Here is the video of an up and coming San Diego artist that I have shared with you guys here in the past.  Banish comes from good stock and lets his hard work ethics do the talking for him in the ever so proud MC circles.  It sure has been fun watching this cats hard work pay off for him.  Solid production, great cameos and a clean video.  What more do you want?  Salute!  The song "GONE" is the taken from the New album "Dredgar Cayce".   The album features guest appearances by: Crooked I, Rakaa, Ill Bill, Reef the lost Cauze, Outerspace, Demoz, King Magnetic, Block McCloud, Aims, James Heated and production by:

Black History Month – February 2012

One of the best things about being around in this Hip Hop culture since the 80’s is seeing all the new generations that continue to sprout.  There is nothing like building with and passing jewels to the youth.  With that said this is something I’m very pro active about with the San Diego Chapter of the NorthStar Zulus.
Celebrating this past Black History Month I was able to team up with one of our community partners – The Writerz Blok.  They were doing a month long session with the Malcom X Library and asked the San Diego NorthStar Zulus to teach a DJ class.  We got this very last minute, but the opportunity to work with and leave something in the minds of these youth was too much to just pass up on.  I ended up doing half the class on history of the turntable, DJ history with some Hip Hop history and history on scratching.  The second part of the class was the most enjoyable for the kids since they all got their turns at playing with the turntable and trying to scratch for their very first time.  The students we’re great and we also had some participation from a few adults as well.  The one thing that just gave me a huge smile and let me know that Hip Hop Lives was this 11-12 year old girl that for some reason just really seemed to be advanced even though it was her first time even seeing a turntable up close.  She had rhythm and could baby scratch on point, bobbing her head and shoulders at the same time.  Hip Hop Lives!
Here are some of the photos I was able to get from the great folks at the Malcom X Library.  One Love and Enjoy! – DazeRoc-WST
 SDNS Zulu DazeRoc teaching.
 Itching for a scratch...
A youth trying the turntable for the first time.
 Easy does it. 1, 2. 1, 2..
Having fun and learning something new.
My favorite student at the demo!
We had participants from all age groups.  it was a good day.
 The kids were great.
